Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading
UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
IOM is the leading international organization in the field of migration and has over 400 field offices throughout the world.
The Migration Policy Research Division is responsible for supporting IOM’s worldwide efforts in developing and conducting policy-oriented migration research, as well as implementing its own research projects to inform program delivery and policy development. It promotes deeper and more nuanced understandings of international migration within and outside IOM and is responsible for the preparation of IOM’s flagship publication, the World Migration Report.
SUPERVISION
The successful candidate will work under the overall guidance and general supervision of the Head of the Research Division and the direct supervision of Senior Research Officer and work closely with colleagues in the Division.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Assist with desk-based research tasks to support research papers and reports for publication on a range of migration topics.
Assist with desk-based research tasks for the development of the Migration Research Management support materials.
Assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations and briefing notes.
Assist with the preparation and conduct of the migration expert speaker series in HQ.
Respond to internal and external research queries.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

• The successful candidate will improve her/his knowledge of migration and research skills by working with professional colleagues. S/he will have the opportunity to test out all the skills that they developed in the University or Higher Institution in a real work environment.
• The successful candidate will have an enhanced understanding of research project management as well as of global migration dynamics in general.
• The successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills, both oral and written, in a professional setting, as well as exchange with colleagues across board in a multi-cultural environment which will also boost their confidence in a working setting.
• The successful candidate will be able to build a professional network that can be a resource in making well-informed decisions about their career.
• The successful candidate will also be able to actively participate in a dynamic team work, be able to provide independent contribution to research outputs, and take their initiative as and when necessary.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Advanced degree from an accredited academic institution in a field of study related to migration or other relevant social sciences (e.g. humanitarian affairs, development studies, political science, international relations or a related field); or the equivalent combination of work experience in a related area.
Experience
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability to write clearly and concisely and to draft research, policy and other types of papers;
• Strong analytical skills, particularly in migration-related fields.
• Strong organizational skills;
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
• Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;
• Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility and drive for results.
• Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity.
• Can proficiently use MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
• Can engage in various Social Media platforms.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic can be an advantage.

Eligibility and Selection
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM
programmes and activities;
b) are either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated, who have less than two years of relevant working experience.
c) Must have a Master’s Degree
