Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading
UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
In Thailand, IOM began its operations in 1975, assisting the resettlement of Indo-Chinese refugees to countries offering them permanent residence. Since then, IOM activities in the country have expanded significantly both in terms of their geographic reach and target populations.
With the Kingdom of Thailand joining as a member state in 1986, IOM’s cooperation with the Royal Thai Government has expanded to cover all
aspects of migration affecting the Kingdom and its neighbors, including labor migration, migration health, counter trafficking, emergency and post crisis, institution building, border management, security and law enforcement.
Today, IOM has a strong presence in Thailand, with hundreds of staff working on more than 35 active projects in 11 locations across the country. The IOM Mission in
Thailand has a main office in central Bangkok and ten other project offices in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang, Mae Sot, Phang Nga and Ranong.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
As an integral part of the IOM assignment the Junior Professional Officer will:
• Gain experience in an international organization, including management and international cooperation activities, as well as understanding the dynamics of international working groups.
• Be able to prepare documents using the IOM logical and legal framework.
• Participate in development of programs, projects, trainings and workshops related to different migration areas.
• Gain experience in working with governmental, non-governmental and United Nations institutions in Thailand.
• Gain significant knowledge and understanding related to the Counter-Trafficking and
Migration Assistance activities, initiatives, and projects being implemented in IOM Thailand.
The Junior Professional Officer will work under the direct guidance and supervision of the
Migration Assistance Unit Coordinator.
The Junior Professional Officer will be provided with regular feedback on his/her performance and progress, with special attention granted to goal setting and overcoming challenges.
Under the guidance and supervision of Migration Assistance Unit Coordinator, the Junior
Professional Officer’s duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the implementation and management of IOM Thailand’s Counter-Trafficking and Migration Assistance (MA) projects.
Contribute to the development of new concept notes and project proposals on MA and Counter-Trafficking for submission to donors, in response to needs identified by national and local counterparts.
Brief the MAU Coordinator and other staff on programme matters and on national current affairs that may have an impact on the work of IOM.
Help prepare and ensure timely and quality preparation and submissions of project reports according to IOM and donor formats as required. Prepare regular updates, programme summaries, and other relevant info materials and statistics, according to the specific project needs.
Support the development of appropriate monitoring tools to ensure effective development and implementation of projects and activities.
Contribute to the collection, study, and sharing of relevant information/data on victims of trafficking and other vulnerable migrants in Thailand, for dissemination to colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
Support the Media and Communications Officer in the promotion and visibility of IOM activities to garner support for IOM programmes and activities in Thailand.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, law or a related
field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience;
or
• Completed university with a bachelor’s degree
• An advanced university degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience would be an advantage.
• Advanced English writing, communication and negotiation skills.
• Experience of working in a multi-cultural setting
English language proficiency:
Applicants should submit a minimum of iBT TOEFL score of 107 / TEPS score of 800 or New
TEPS score of 452
Age: Not older than 32 years of age as of 31st December 2018 (The maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended accordingly)
