In Greece, IOM is focusing on responding to the Mediterranean migrant’s crisis, in support of the Greek Government and in cooperation with all other agencies involved. IOM currently implements interventions within the areas of emergency, preparedness and response, disaster risk reduction, livelihoods, healthcare and psychosocial assistance, assisted voluntary return of migrants, migration and development, resettlement and repatriation, family reunification, counter human trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Context:

In the framework of the emergency situation regarding the migrants, asylum seekers and refugees across Greece, IOM Athens is establishing a pool of candidates interested to join the organisation as soon as possible.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Create a first contact with the migrants and refugees and build a trust relationship with them
  • Assists with interpretation and cultural mediation the migrants and refugees
  • Translation of documents and materials from English or Greek to Arabic, Sorani, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Sorani and Tigrinya
  • Translates information materials to be disseminated to migrants and refugees.
  • Provide general assistance to his/her supervisor during the information sessions devoted to the migrants hosted in reception camp facilities in the selected Region and at main border points;
  • Assist in the mediation activity in close cooperation with IOM staff and the camp authorities in an objective and impartial way;
  • Undertake duty travels as required
  • Perform other duties as required for the successful implementation of the project.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

· Minimum high school degree from an accredited institution

Experience

  • Ability to speak, read and write in English and Greek, as well as one of the following languages: Arabic, Sorani, Farsi, Dari, Pashto At least four years of previous relevant work experience; Experience in an international environment; Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc)

Languages

  • Knowledge of Greek;
  • English is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of one of the following languages: Arabic, Sorani, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Sorani and Tigrinya is mandatory

    Advantageous Background working with refugees or migrants will be a distinct advantage

Other

1. The position is subject to funding confirmation. 2. Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
