Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Burundi, and in coordination with relevant Department Heads, Project Managers, and Units at Headquarters (HQs) and the Regional Office (RO) for East and Horn of Africa in Nairobi, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of IOM Burundi’s health projects and activities.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
Monitor and ensure timely and quality implementation of migration and health project activities in accordance with the project work plans, agreed indicators and in line with IOM standards.
Facilitate and monitor resource mobilization and project development activities within migration and health, checking the quality of project proposals, reports and external material.
Regularly monitor project budgets for migration and health projects, verifying that expenditure is in line with timeframes and allocated funds.
Facilitate the development of migration and health public information tools, including but not limited to success stories, newsletters, and press releases.
Collaborate internally with other units in response to calls for proposals, or information from HQs, RO, donors, partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
Facilitate the identification and engagement of technical experts for capacity strengthening required under migration and health project activities.
Participate in national and regional meetings, workshops or seminars as required.
Maintain strong relationships with the key stakeholders, including national and local government counterparts and UN agencies, for effective and efficient project implementation.
Supervise project support staff and encourage and facilitate capacity building and training.
Undertake duty travels as required.
Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Experience in migration and health within a government or UN agency, or a Regional or
International Organization in East and Horn of Africa;
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, other national/international institutions and
NGOs;
• Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation;
• Experience in implementing projects;
• Knowledge of IOM procedures;
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of relational databases, Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, word processing etc.
• Knowledge of IOM/UN accounting systems, software and procedures a distinct advantage.
Languages
Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
