Organizational Context and Scope
Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer (WASH) and the direct supervision of the Project Officer (WASH), the incumbent will be required to work as a member of the WASH unit towards the improvement of hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities effectiveness, particularly as part of the WASH intervention, to safeguard and improve the public health of the affected population by promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services; ensuring appropriate targeted community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities and training on gender related issues such as early marriage.
The incumbent will be tasked for deployment to the far-off locations in the country where WASH needs have been identified. The incumbent will have to be ready for travel in short notice of being informed and will have to remain in the location until the project is completed or tasked to assist in a different location.
- Assist in promoting safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services among IDP and host communities.
- Assist the community mobilizers to mobilize the communities to mitigate priority water and sanitation related health risks, promoting the BCC strategy and keeping records of the community volunteers participating in HP activities.
- Assist in communicating effectively with the communities targeted, ensuring that hygiene and health messages are passed on with participatory interventions, allowing ownership and empowerment of the beneficiaries to influence their hygiene and health.
- Assist in selecting, train, and manage Community WASH Standing committees, such as Community Water Management Committee members, sanitation facilities caretakers and volunteer hygiene promoter networks within the targeted beneficiaries.
- Participate in the HP campaign by conducting house to house visits focused on hygiene promotion and public health, focus groups and mass campaign using songs, posters, etc. promoting Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS) methodology and assisting the community mobilizers in the implementation of gathering events.
Provide a weekly activity progress report to the Hygiene Promotion and Public Health Officer based in Juba, highlighting achievements versus targets.
Any other duties as may be assigned by the Programme Coordinator (WASH), Hygiene Promotion and Public Health officer and Project Officers (WASH).

Technical
Knowledge of one or more of the following: public health, health or Hygiene Promotion, community development, education, or community water supply and sanitation.
At least two years of practical experience in South Sudan, in relevant community development, health, WASH, or similar programs.
Good knowledge and experience of working with community, local partner agencies and government counterpart.
Experience and understanding of Hygiene Promotion and community mobilization in relation to water and sanitation activities.
Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of different sectors of a community.
Familiarity with the culture of the affected population, ability to develop respect from a wide range of people and strong ability to communicate effectively on hygiene matters
Incorporates gender-related needs, perspectives, and concerns, and promotes equal gender participation;
Demonstrates commitment to gender equality and prevention of GBV;
Creates a respectful office environment free of harassment and retaliation, and promotes the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA);
Education and Experience
A High school diploma or a combination of equivalent training and practical experience;
Two years of relevant experience in the field of social mobilization and public health;
Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility and drive for results
Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from various cultures and professional background.
Languages
English and Arabic language competency is essential, knowledge of Dinka/Nuer is an advantage.
